I continue to photograph Biei, feeling the changes of the seasons and weather with my five physical senses, and create my works based on the sixth sense (intuition) I have acquired through this experience. I always pursue “fantastic light” by taking advantage of the climate of Biei, and reproduce the best moments that I feel with my body and see with my naked eye in the images captured by my camera.
Color is also an important element in my work, and I am very particular about color. The fantastic moments of natural scenery are scenes that can never be encountered again.
I am grateful to have encountered beautiful nature, and I would like to continue to share my impressions.
I first encountered the scenery of Biei in the summer of 1997. I was 24 years old. I was born and raised in Kobe, so I still recall clearly how impressed I was by the vast land and nature.
As I continued my work activities, I felt the depth of Biei, and at the same time, my appreciation for nature grew. I then moved to Biei at the age of 28 with the desire to express the landscape of Biei with as much youthfulness as possible, and began my art activities in earnest.
I hope to preserve the wonderful landscapes and natural phenomena created by the climate of Biei for future generations, and by continuing to take photographs, I hope to convey the importance of nature to as many people as possible.
I have been using the Hasselblad square format for many years to express the vastness of the earth and the high sky, and I have found a unique world view in the works captured in the 1:1 square format. Although I have added the PENTAX 645Z and NIKON Z9 to my portfolio with an emphasis on “color” “richness of tones” and “resolution” I still cherish the “1:1 world” and utilizes it in the creation of my works.
This is where the world view of Biei as it is, which only ABE Shunichi can reproduce, begins.
ABE Shunichi, a photographer and former vocational school teacher who is well versed in the charms of Biei and its topography, offers guided “Photo Tours” and “Photo Classes” to help students acquire skills in a short period of time. I will help you to capture the expression of light, hills, and sky in your funder and dramatically express your work.
Photography tours are also available from Sapporo.
Original products created with ABE Shunichi’s photographs are available for purchase through our web store. In addition to postcards and photo books that allow you to enjoy a variety of photographs, calendars and canvas-printed clocks that add color to your interior are also popular.
We hope you will enjoy the works that capture the colors of nature in Biei-cho as they are.
